Stories of connection, collaboration and community across Scotland’s care services
Across Scotland, care does not happen in isolation. It is created through relationships – between people who draw on support, families, staff, communities and partners – all working together to make life richer, more connected and more meaningful.
These stories show what integration and collaboration look like in practice. From care homes opening their doors to the wider community, to partnerships that reconnect people with their life stories, and long‑standing relationships that bring generations together, each example highlights care as a shared endeavour.
Together, they show how care creates connection, belonging and possibility – not just within services, but across communities – when people, organisations and systems come together around what matters most.
Care Creates… collaboration grounded in the stories that matter
Oakbank Care Home – Tullibardine Distillery Visit
Residents from Oakbank Care Home enjoyed a memorable outing to Tullibardine Distillery – a visit made especially meaningful for Donnie, who spent many years there as a skilled cask maker.
Working in partnership with distillery staff and supported by Oakbank’s team, the visit offered space for reminiscence, shared stories and connection. A personalised photo book created afterwards helped capture the day and celebrate Donnie’s working life.
This showcases how collaboration and life‑story work can create moments of dignity, wellbeing and lasting memory.

BCG The Glen’s Care Home – Big Scottish Breakfast
Residents, families, staff and local supporters came together at BCG’s The Glens care home in Angus to host a Big Scottish Breakfast in support of the STV Children’s Appeal.
Organised by the home’s Activities Coordinator and supported by staff, community partners and STV, the event was filled with good food, music, laughter and shared purpose – raising over £500 for school breakfast clubs across Scotland.
A powerful example of how care homes act as community hubs, creating connection and impact well beyond their walls.
