Care Home Residents Take Centre Stage in Photography Project Challenging Stigma
Residents at Westwood House Care Home have stepped into the spotlight as part of a creative project aimed at challenging perceptions of life in care homes.
In a collaboration led by staff member Rahela, the home partnered with a local college to connect with photography student Asma. Together, they developed a project exploring how to break down stigma and highlight that life continues to be full and meaningful for those living in care settings.
As part of the initiative, three residents – Dan, Ronnie and Sheila – spent the morning in a professional studio, having their photographs taken. The experience offered not only a chance to capture beautiful images, but also to celebrate individuality, confidence and joy.
All three residents embraced the opportunity, thoroughly enjoying their time in front of the camera and the chance to try something new.
The project reflects Westwood House’s commitment to opening up care home life to wider communities, building meaningful partnerships, and showcasing the lived experiences of residents in a positive and empowering way.
