Stories of the people who create care
Across Scotland, social care is powered by people, from those just beginning their careers to experienced leaders guiding teams through the most important moments in people’s lives.
This Fair Pay, Fair Work, Fair Care Week, these Care Creates stories shine a light on the individuals and teams who make care personal, compassionate and meaningful every day. They show how care is created through connection, creativity and trust, whether that’s a care assistant using music to bring people together, or a care home manager leading teams with empathy, professionalism and reassurance for families.
Together, these stories reflect the breadth of Scotland’s social care workforce: diverse in role and experience, united by a shared commitment to people. They remind us that care isn’t just something that happens – it’s something that is created, day by day, by those who choose to work in social care.

Carrondale Home Partnership with Education Partners
We’re not just thinking about today – we’re thinking about what comes next.
Through Carrondale Care Home’s partnership with Larbert High School, they have supported the development of a Social Care Room, giving young people real insight into what care is all about.
And it doesn’t stop there, Carrondale are now working alongside education partners to develop an SQA qualification in Social Care, creating clear pathways into the profession.
It’s all about giving young people real experiences, building confidence, and showing them the value and purpose of a career in care.
Because the future of care starts with opportunity, understanding and belief.

Care Creates… connection
Care Assistant Profile – Kenna Johnston – Glenisla Care Home
At just 18, Kenna Johnston is already making a real impact through her work at Glenisla Care Home in Keith. A care assistant with a love of music, Kenna has brought her guitar into the home, using music to connect with residents and brighten day-to-day life.
After discovering one resident could play the piano, she began playing and singing alongside them, often performing songs from Les Misérables. But it hasn’t stopped there.
Music has become a regular part of life in the home, with Kenna involving other residents and creating shared moments that bring people together, where care creates connection in a simple, everyday way.
“On one level, it’s just people who have a love for music getting together. But it’s amazing to see the impact it has. It helps people connect and breaks down communication barriers.”
In simple, everyday ways, care creates meaningful moments.
