Jesmond Home – Fashion Show

Residents at an Aberdeen care home have been treated to a fashion show by staff.

The event was staged at Renaissance Care’s Jesmond Home to mark the National Activity Providers Association (Napa) Year of Culture

Staff from Nigeria, India, Romania, Poland and Scotland wore traditional dress and entertained residents with a catwalk.

Alex Young, 84, said: “I thought the show was absolutely brilliant, full of colour, it was so good to see the staff all dressed up.

Dot Lord, 81, added: “I loved seeing all the costumes, they were gorgeous! It was so good to see the staff participating- we all really enjoyed it!”

2026 is the NAPA Year of Culture, a national campaign designed to help care teams reflect on, celebrate, and improve meaningful engagement through cultural, creative, and personal identity initiatives. It features, resources, training, and events focusing on diversity and inclusion.

The organisation has released a “Year of Culture Toolkit” and a “My Culture, My Story!” resource pack to help activity providers and care teams build personalised, inclusive, and culturally-relevant activity programs

Jade McGowan, wellbeing improvement manager at Jesmond, said: “The fashion show allowed us to celebrate the diverse backgrounds of our staff.

“Team members proudly wore traditional attire representing their heritage and took part in a catwalk event, with residents in attendance.

“The event was a great success, providing meaningful engagement for residents while promoting inclusion, understanding, and a strong sense of community within the home. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the diversity of our team in a positive and uplifting way.”
