Capability to pay fees letter

Capability to pay fees letter

A Scottish Care member has kindly shared some letter templates that they use to try and establish a person’s capability to pay for their room within a care home. This letter template also allows POAs and Guardians to complete it.

It covers three options:

  1. A person has sufficient savings without selling a property
  2. A person has savings for a short period but then would have to sell a property
  3. A person’s immediate assets are below the upper Capital Limit but they have a property to sell.

Where there is a property to sell, there is a need to clarify if it is joint ownership or spouse or partner is still in the home or if there any mortgages or loans against the property.

This included an Appendix to this that can be updated each year showing Capital Limits etc.
