Power of Attorney: Making the Case and Building the Conversation in Scotland
Invitation
Venue: Standard Life House, 30 Lothian Road, Edinburgh, EH1 2DH
Date: Tuesday 27 January 2026
Time: 12:00 – 2:30pm (lunch included)
Carers Scotland and Standard Life are pleased to invite you to an event exploring how organisations across Scotland and the UK can work together to raise awareness of power of attorney.
Research published earlier this year highlighted worryingly low levels of public understanding about power of attorney. As part of their ongoing partnership, Carers UK, Carers Scotland and Standard Life are joining forces to build a campaign aimed at raising awareness and challenging myths and misconceptions.
Their aim is to ensure more people know about and understand the benefits of power of attorney, and to encourage earlier conversations with trusted individuals – well before a time of crisis. Many organisations already provide excellent advice and support, and this work will build on previous Scotland‑specific power of attorney campaigns.
This January, experts and senior representatives from statutory partners, specialist charities, financial institutions and other relevant organisations in Scotland are invited to:
- Share and discuss their experiences of promoting power of attorney to their stakeholders
- Consider the positive impact increased uptake could have on key services – from finance to health and social care
- Discuss what success would look like for this campaign
The event will feature contributions from the Office of the Public Guardian (Scotland), as well as carers who will share their personal experiences of having – and not having – a power of attorney.
We hope you are able to join this important discussion and support efforts to raise awareness of this crucial topic.
