Sunshine, Smiles and a Soggy Manager: Antiquary Care Home Celebrates New Accessible Patio
Antiquary Care Home, part of BCG, one of Scotland’s leading care providers, has put its newly created accessible patio area to immediate use this week, bringing residents, their families, the home team and members of the local community together for a joyful summer garden party filled with fun, music and celebration.
Held on a glorious summer’s day, the event attracted a wonderful turnout of all ages, gathering to enjoy the home’s enhanced outdoor space with lots of entertainment designed to bring generations together.
The new patio area has been created to extend accessibility in the gardens, for even wider enjoyment, in comfort and safety, providing an inclusive space for relaxation, socialising and outdoor activities. Designed with wheelchair users and residents using wheeled chairs in mind, the area complements the home’s existing ramp access and further improves access throughout the garden.
To mark the occasion, the home’s grounds were transformed into a vibrant festival atmosphere featuring games, refreshments, a raffle, tombola, painting, bouncy castle and piñata. Visitors also had the chance to meet two gorgeous owls, Quinn and Nono, brought along by JM Owls, while one of the biggest attractions of the day saw excited children soak brave Home Manager, Sarah Donley-Robinson – complete with bath cap – with water balloons and wet sponges, much to the delight of her residents, their families and her team alike. And then the supersoakers came out!
Guests were treated to a lively dance performance by The Basin Belles, whose colourful routine had residents clapping along.

“We are so pleased with our new accessible patio area, and excited to bring everyone together to enjoy it in the best possible way – with our extended family of all ages having just the best time together. It was so special to see so many residents, their loved ones, our team and supportive members of the community enjoying the space together. The garden party was a fantastic celebration and perfectly demonstrated the importance of creating outdoor environments that everyone can access and enjoy – even if I did get rather wet in the process. Good job it was such a lovely summer’s day!”
Residents were at the heart of the day’s celebrations, not only spending happy hours outdoors enjoying the sunshine and entertainment, but looking forward to their party, preparing and planting their raised flower beds and cooking up some sweet treats for everyone to sample.
