Scottish Care is hosting an engagement session with senior colleagues from Scotland Excel. The one-and-a-half-hour session will be facilitated by Donald Macaskill.
It will take place on 23rd June from 1:30pm to 3:00pm and will be online.
Scotland Excel is undertaking a review of the national social care contracts and is considering options for the organisation’s future role in social care. This is in recognition of the challenges faced in the social care sector and of the limitations of the current national approach. The review will involve considering alternative models that Scotland Excel could explore to better support commissioning and procurement needs including potential different collaborative models (regional or national) as well as options to support local commissioning activity.
A programme of engagement is planned for 2026 to ensure that this work is informed by stakeholder views, needs and priorities. Detailed engagement sessions with individual local councils are scheduled to take place during the summer.
Scotland Excel are currently undertaking the research phase of the project, in advance of the detailed engagement with councils, which involves desk top research and gathering views from stakeholders about the future options which Scotland Excel should be considering. Scotland Excel is seeking views from providers in relation to this.
They are looking to get clarity on what works well for providers and views about potential alternative approaches which Scotland Excel should explore. The key questions for providers are:
- What would good look like for providers in a future role for Scotland Excel?
- Are there any models of procurement or commissioning which work really well and which Scotland Excel should be exploring? These could be local, regional or national models. What is it about these models that works well for providers?
The overall aim of the project is to enable us to develop a new strategy for Scotland Excel’s future role in social care commissioning and procurement.
The session is primarily addressed to arrangements other than the National Care Home Contract which will not be covered during the project.
If any member would like to attend, please reserve a place as soon as practicable via our Members Area.
We hope that the session will be as participative as possible so come with your ideas!
